Malnutrition is the biggest cause of death for children around the world and one of the main barriers to ending global poverty, and it severely affects 1.2 billion people in Africa and Mesoamerica who rely on corn. Semilla Nueva develops corn seeds that have the nutrients that children need, the yields that help the poorest farmers grow their way out of poverty, and resilience to climate change. Semilla Nueva sells these seeds at subsidized prices to the poorest farmers and supports local seed companies to scale our model. Their seeds will be used by 32,000 families in 2023, nourishing over 1 million people.
